My cousin got arrested and charged with shop lifting 30 years ago. Will this show on school CRB check?
He was 17 and had done nothing prior to this, and nothing since [a pair of sunglasses at Boots if you're interested] It was one of those stupid opportunistic moments that he has always regretted. The police charged him and he went to court and as far as he can remember, got a two year suspended sentence, he thinks [he's tried to blot it out]. Well fast forward thirty years and he’s done very well for himself and has his three boys at a private school. He’s never been on a school trip because this would require the school to do their own CRB check, and he’d be horrified at them finding out, as he feels that this could affect his boys’ scholarship chances, as well as causing immense embarrassment. What can he do?
Timbo has answered correctly. If the school do an enhanced CRB check (which to be honest they should do) then yes it will show, anything will do – cautions too although people never seem to think they will. It will also show though (if the school is as thorough as they should be) that your cousin isn’t on the sex offenders list and has no further convictions. That will be more what the school is bothered about. Oh and was there a chance in the past when the school should have been told eg an application form that said “have you ever been convicted of an offense?” If a chance was missed there to declare it, it will look a bit bad now when it shows on a crb, but if there was no opportunity your cousin would have had no reason to declare it in the past to them, so why worry now? Off the topic a bit they actually show up even long since spent convictions because there was a spate of people convicted much later on in life after a lifetime of work with children who had received warnings or minor charges against kids years before yet no one checked.

Clown hire
When I was a child I loved parties. The excitement of an oncoming birthday was enough to make one explode with joy! I remember driving my mother mad “Mum can we have an entertainer? Mum can it be a clown? Can we have a magician too?”. My mother would make deals with me “if you get a good mark in the spelling test then you can have jelly and ice cream” or “if your end of term report is good then we’ll get you a clown“. I once managed to get a clown!
Some of my friends had some great parties. I remember when I was about 6 and my friend Sam had a magician come and do tricks. It was really fun, but I don’t think he can have been very good because I remember shouting ‘it’s up his sleeve’ or ‘it’s behind him’ quite a lot – that must have been infuriating for the poor man, especially since I was probably wrong!
Another time, my friend Alice had a Prince and Princesses party. We must’ve been about 7 and it was definitely an age where we boys were not at all interested in playing ‘Prince and Princess’. I remember that we had all been matched up, Prince and Princess, which the girls enjoyed but we thought was just silly. When it came time to play games as partners (like three legged race, egg and spoon race etc.) we all complained about how slow the girls were compared to us (except for Suzie as she was stronger than all of us!).
Children’s parties are a wonderful thing that leave us with lasting and hopefully great memories that we take with us for the rest of our lives.
